UK EdTech Purlos raises £450k in seed round to accelerate its growth

Purlos, the UK’s leading experience management platform for post-16 education, has announced that it has raised £450k in a seed round led by Ufi Ventures, bringing its total raised as of October 2020 to £750k.

Private investors working in some of the world’s largest EdTech companies also participated in the round, including the COO of and the CEO of Biblio.

With this fundraising, the company plans to accelerate its growth, particularly in the UK where students struggle with the increasing complexity of courses available and education providers struggle for the resources to engage them effectively.

Founded in 2019 by David Bartlett and Mohammad Salam, Purlos works with further education colleges and universities to help them increase their revenue and enrollment by converting and retaining more students during the admissions process. The platform provides a full suite of analytics tools that offer insight into risk levels and risk drivers to, for example, reduce bounce rates and ultimately increase sign-up-to-enrollment conversion. It is the only company in the world that uses AI to highlight students who are at the highest risk of dropping out.

The startup has built a SAAS-based system that connects with prospective students during the admissions process via WhatsApp and other channels preferred by younger students – much more effective than connecting with them via email or phone. It is especially effective in helping you connect with hard-to-reach students.

Commenting on the investment, Director of Ufi Ventures, Helen GironiHe said:

“Purlos is also developing its destination platform to support improved engagement with students after they leave college. Currently under development is a ‘comparison tool’ to compare destinations across the country and a job search tool to match local labor market data with college and corporate organizations; enabling more students to transition into real work.”

AI and logic mapping enable Purlos to answer 90% of student queries, providing more timely responses and reducing workload for clients.

Unique data analytics enable clients to identify bottlenecks and critical points in the learner journey, enabling personalized support where and when it’s needed.
Working with over 20% of the FE market, Purlos boasts clients from multiple industries including FE colleges, training providers and government organisations. The company already supports more than 200,000 students and is growing 400% year over year. It has prevented more than 5,000 students from leaving school, equating to a potential lost income of over £20m.

With the backing of Ufi Ventures and a loyal existing customer base, Purlos will continue to drive better outcomes for students.

Last year in January, Purlos raised £300,000 in a funding round led by a number of education industry investors from the US, UK and Germany.
